Brewfest

Filed under: World of Warcraft — Andrew.Rowbottom @ 11:33 am

Blizzard, order you distract me from making money with all this Brewfest stuff!

Instead of grinding money for my epic mount like a good little raider I find I’m running around for a buncha drunken doorfs trying to get enough coins together to buy yet another silly item of clothing! And once I’ve done that I’ll probably to be eyeing up that pony keg. At least I’ve not got hung up on trying to get a Brewfest special mount. I do wish I’d taken part in this event last year so’s I could have had that ram though.

It’ll be over soon, then it’s back to grinding money. 20% of the way there, only 4k more to go!

Shammy Lurve

Filed under: World of Warcraft — Andrew.Rowbottom @ 11:26 am

I just saw a post on the Munqui forums that included the words: “if i level shammy” and suddenly I came over all nostalgic.

I don’t really know where these things come from, ophthalmologist but I really love playing my shaman. I loved all the melee bit while levelling, beating the hell out of things face to face (especially level 43 up). I love the healy stuff now I’m resto. I find the whole deciding whether to drop totems or not while fighting to be interesting enough without it being game-breaking (ofc being overgeared for your average mob helps). I don’t know why, but I’m glad I rolled a Shamanka.

Maybe I’ll feel differently when I’m leveling again in “coldlands” and have to make a choice between resto and elemental (I’d rather be Enhancement but I’ve not got the right clothes).

Another pointless post.

What’s that!

Ohh, angina I must be feeling a bit strange, population health a non-Warcraft Post!

We got front shoes put on our old Mare this morning so’s we can take her out as a steady companion for our “competitive” horsey. Not that he’s competing at the moment, he’s on the very long road to recovery from a torn suspensory ligament (no equivalent in humans). Anyway hopefully he’ll be persuaded not to buck his teensy tiny little brains out every time he comes out of his corral, ‘coz if he does Philly will give him one of those “don’t fuck with me” looks and he’ll be all subdued for a few seconds. Such is the relationship between old “Aunty” mares and young(ish) geldings.

I’ve also recieved a huge pile of old (out of copyright) OS maps of Ireland to scan, rectify, stitch and georeference/geolocate for the NPE maps site. That’s gonna take me a good couple of weeks to complete and might just kickstart me into doing some much overdue work on the old OS maps part of this site. I’ve got at least 6 more maps waiting to upload.

Eh, what’s that? /facepalm

Filed under: World of Warcraft — Andrew.Rowbottom @ 1:19 pm

I was reading Lume the Mad’s broad summary of changes in WotLK when  came across a reference to the draenei spell symbol of hope. OK, shop so I must be a complete idiot but I’ve not cast this spell even once in my entire career! What’s more it looks like it’s a free 900 mana to everyone in the party! WHAT! I’m going to look into this one tonight! Though it’s being replaced with hymn of hope a channeled spell, apparently returning less mana, even so! How come I’ve never come across this!

Interweb you have let me down! [Edit] Or perhaps more specifically, my brain has let me down, Symbol of Hope is a Draenei Priest spell.

Third post today

Filed under: World of Warcraft — Andrew.Rowbottom @ 1:02 pm

Yeah yeah, cheapest two posts in one day – so sue me.

I can’t deny it, diagnosis I’m looking forwards to Rash of the Itch King. It does mean my level 60 Warlock is going to be left even more behind, generic no more will I be able fool myself that one-day I might go back and level him to the cap, it will be almost exactly a year since I stopped questing on him when WotLK comes out. It also means my Druid (level 44 at the time of posting) may get left behind when I see how much more time it’s gonna take to cap her.

On the plus side this will be the first time I’ve been around for an expansion release with all the excitement that hopefully that will entail. Even better perhaps, there should be plenty of other toons around to group with – more pugging (and all its attendant brainache).

Other pluses: My healing gear should become better than usable as Elemental kit opening the way for re-speccing. It’s a shame I’m not over-enamoured of casting, though needs must I suppose. Even more reason for abandoning Szar in Ironforge.

An unexpected plus: it’s coming out in time for Christmas, this year I’ve a long holiday over the crimbo period so you never know… Last year it was pugging Flowersz through Scarlet Monastery (and that was quite fun), who knows what it will be this year.

Oh yeah, I just noticed, I missed my one year anniversary of joining the Munqui Tribe and Flowersz birthday is coming up as well (sometime between 19th and 28th November).
Oh yeah, order

WotLK

I’ve not thought much about Rash of the Itch King, cialis 40mg but now it’s got a release date, more and it’s coming closer, ambulance I’m beginning to think about it at least a little bit. So here’s where I try to fix my thinking and maybe make a few plans……

Inscription and money making.

There’s a fair bit of talk about how there’s going to be a rush of players taking up the new inscription profession, the prediction seems to be that there will be a high demand for herbs which will push up the costs. Obviously this will “peak”, but it might be a time to make a killing on the AH.

My thoughts on this are that, yes, there will be a peak, but the lower level herbs aren’t worth much and new inscribers will leave them behind quite quickly. I’m guessing the best profits will be in the mid to high level herbs, this is where most professions get a little resource intensive. So, should I send my herbalist warlock out into the real world to gather and gather and gather? He’s only got a slow mount so he’d probably have to buy a faster one which is an investment of several hundred gold. Would it be more profitable to simply do dailies?

Gear for Flowersz

Flowersz is always wanting upgrades, though they are coming much more slowly now she’s in the early raiding zone. She’s been saving Badges-of-Justice to purchase upgrades, at the moment her worst piece of kit are her Chestpiece, Mace and a ring, all of which are blues. Upgrades to all of these drop in Kara, and significantly better quality items can be bought for Badges of Justice (apparently buying epics is considered yet another category of Welfare Epics – but don’t get me started).

Badges won’t be currency in “Rash” and raiding Kara will almost certainly stop, so if Flowersz doesn’t have enough Badges when November 13th rolls around then she never will! Should she save up and spend what she has on the 13th or should she spend now to get immediate improvements? Realistically raiding one night a week Flowersz will earn something in the region of 70 more badges which will net her around 130 badges, not quite enough for the Gavel of Naruu Blessings (the hottest upgrade she could possibly get), so that leaves her looking at the more lukewarm badge upgrades… And then there’s the worry that her gear will become outleveled in Northrend.

a brief summary of badge upgrades

Main hand:

  • Gavel of Naaru Blessing, 150BoJ

Chest:

  • Wave of Life Chestguard, 100BoJ

Ring:

  • Band of Halos, 25BoJ
  • Anveena’s Touch, 60BoJ

Totem:

  • Totem of Living Water, 20BoJ

Or, she could spend every 15 badges on epic gems and sell them for between 200 and 300 gold on the AH, though prices appear to be dropping. She will have enough BoJ for around about 8 gems or around 2000g. Though that won’t be helping the “‘Tribe”.

I think, on the whole Flowersz will keep saving her BoJ’s and hope against all hope that she gets enough to buy the Gavel, it’s a huge upgrade and if something almost as good drops in Kara then reconsider, alternatively she will almost certainly be able to afford the Chestguard or the Ring with Totem.

Wittering

Filed under: World of Warcraft — Andrew.Rowbottom @ 11:42 am

The Munquis are getting good at Karazhan, try recording yet another full clear with only 3 boss wipes and one of those was a bug.

After last weeks surprise topping of the healing charts at Moroes, pilule Flowersz has stepped back to her rightful third place and was sat at 19% overall healing-done last night.

  • Curator 26%
  • Arran 13%
  • Illhoof 17%
  • Prince 18%
  • Netherspite 20%
  • Nightbane 16%
  • Trash 26%

I’m not surprised, oncologist an example of the competition she was up against: during an unsuccessful Nightbane attempt two of the healers died leaving the main healer and a backup healer successfully keeping the raid upright for ages before the backup healer finally got nuked. Even after that our stupendous lone Pally kept going for more than a minute before running out of mana.

It looks like, on a good day, the Munquis should be able to make a damn good attempt at Kara with only two good healers (not Flowersz). Flowersz was cancelling an awfull lot of heals last night and still hit 40-50% overheal (she wasn’t alone either). Ideally the extra DPS will speed things up and lower the healing effort.

Arch Rival

Ophidiane was on the raid last night, she’s a newly minted 70 in mostly blues. If you’ve been reading this blog for several months you may remember that she’s the Enhancement Shaman that was started around the same time as Flowersz and consistently put her leveling speed to shame. Fortunately for my ego she was put on hold for some time, but has recently been brought out of retirement. I had the privilege of grouping with her a week or so ago (when she was a mere level 68) and was very very impressed with how she was played, moving through the quests so fast that Flowersz barely had time to heal her before she was out of range! She brought all that skill along with her last night, topping the damage meters on several fights and took the role of “loot trashcan” walking away with several well deserved epics including  not just one, but two “of the fallen defender” pieces of Tier whatever shaman loot. Gratz as they say. She’s going to be even more dangerous now, and all those silly bosses in Kara had better watch out ‘coz they’re gonna get their noses proper bent!

Flowersz didn’t have to go away moping jealously (truly those items were well earned), she got a new shield – Dragonheart Flameshield, despite being Elemental kit it’s still got better stats than her slightly rusty and much dented Crystal Pulse Shield. I may be a saddo, but what impresses me the most is how it looks and the animation – IT TOTALLY ROCKS!

Oddities

We had a strange incident on Prince. Tum-di-tum, there we were all healing away happily, chugging mana pots, refreshing  Earth Shields and all that when suddenly the tank is dead! The WWS logs show

20:59’21.634 T Flash of Light heals Shirtish for 1917.
20:59’21.634 S Flash of Light heals Shirtish for 1135.
20:59’22.137 Shirtish gains Earth Shield.
20:59’22.157 Shirtish Mangle (Bear) hits Prince Malchezaar for 497 Physical.
20:59’22.157 Prince Malchezaar suffers 390 Physical damage from Shirtish Lacerate.
20:59’22.913 Shirtish melee swing hits Prince Malchezaar for 726 Physical. (Critical)
20:59’23.276 Prince Malchezaar melee swing hits Shirtish for 2550 Physical.
20:59’23.848 Shirtish died.

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but in this tiny little fragment we can see that Shirtish gains +3052 health from healing and loses 2550 health from damage, but still ended up dead! From my recollection he was feeling pretty damn healthy at the time, certainly more than 50% health (which is more than Flowersz entire health pool).

I declare a Bug!

Annoyances

I’ve recently added gfxToggle2 to my plugins in WoW, I thought it would make it easier to toggle to high quality graphics for taking screenies, and it does! What it doesn’t do is remember your current settings, so you can only select from low, medium, high.

Anyway a bit ago I took a screenie and set the quality back to “medium” and then, last night, die to “Charred Earth” when fighting Nightbane – I don’t usually do this because it’s quite obvious, the ground looks badly burnt. Except – the author of this particular addon has decided that Medium quality means setting the Spell Detail to minimum. At anything below 50% you simply can’t see the Charred Earth effect, ant the only way to tell that you are in it is to watch your debuffs like a hawk, wonder why your health is plummeting and why the Raid leader is shouting at you to get out of the Charred Earth when you can quite clearly see that you aren’t in it!

Sorry guys, that addon is now a “minus”-on!

Good, Bad and Ugly

No GBU section this weel, not because Flowersz is now perfect, but because it’s the same old stuff, small improvements, but nothing really worth writing about.

WHEEE!

Did I mention that Dragonheart Flameshield looks truly mean?

Hard to believe

Filed under: World of Warcraft — Andrew.Rowbottom @ 11:57 am

I think this is a first for me – I was certainly surprised!

OK, web now the caveats – this only happened on Moroes, and we had a raid with 3 hunter pets so all the more targets for Chain heal, and the priest was on shackle duty, and I’m pretty suspicious about the low “presence” percentages, but hey! It’s the first time I’ve topped the meters – go Flowersz!

Fun run in Kara last night, I certainly enjoyed myself. First time with a trimmed down UI, I’ve finally replaced Blizzards buttons with Bartender, shrunk the chat window, moved the minimap etc. Now I can see what’s going on.

Flowersz is definitely getting the hang of chaining stuff, in a 5 minute fight Flowersz chained

  • 2 Mana Pots,
  • 2 Seaspray Albatrosses
  • 6 Earth Bind Totems (to try and help hunter kiting)
  • 2 Grace of Air (she was in the Hunter group)

So not perfect (no Heroism/Elemental!), but improving, now to get better on the other fights.

Socks

Machine oil? That would be the Curator, urticaria soap should get rid of that. Getting a little low, youth health must remember to visit Griftah for some more. Food stains on the tabards, patient oh yes, Moroes, he never washes his hands. Pig!

I’m not even going to ask what the green stuff is – Gnomes really shouldn’t be let loose to run around the stables, their legs are just too short!

At least there’s only sweat stains from all the running around at the Opera, why can’t we just sit down and watch for once, I ask you? Audience participation is all well and good, and makes for a fun evening out, but sometimes that Barnes gets over excited and takes it all just too far!

Now what’s next? Oh yes, must darn those pin-hole burns in Brast’s socks, damn Illhoof’s Imps and their fireballs,  trying to set fire to everything!

Ah well, the Munqui’s are a good team, golden hearted all of them, and that Brast is a good warrior, darning his socks is only a small thing really. It could be worse, I could be doing for Prince. Have you seen the state of his knickers?
