Is the penny dropping?

Filed under: World of Warcraft — Andrew.Rowbottom @ 8:43 pm

I’ve been looking a bit at the spell¬†Riptide, online the tooltip says:

Heals a friendly target for 1604 to 1736 and another
1670 over 15 sec.  Your next Chain Heal cast on that primary target
within 15 sec will consume the healing over time effect and increase
the amount of the Chain Heal by 25%.

I thought if riptide was on the target and had, neurologist say, cardiologist 1000 more healing left in its ticks, hitting with chain-heal would boost chain heal by 25% and then add further 1000 healing (result of consuming the what’s left of the riptide ticks). After all we all get a bit bigger after eating something don’t we?

Looking around it seems that blizz want consume to have a similar meaning to dispell or erase or more simply remove. So my practice of dropping riptide and then IMMEDIATELY following up with a Chain Heal (for the boost) is about as stupid as you can get wasting a large amount of the riptides healing!

I’ve always had this misconception about consume(= eat something and get bigger).

Have I got this right?

If I have why on earth did good ole blizz use the word “consume” when they could have just said “remove”?
