Shopping in Iceland

Filed under: World of Warcraft — Andrew.Rowbottom @ 1:22 pm

Not the store, treatment the Frozen halls.

I didn’t get to do the ICC raid yesterday, mostly because I couldn’t make the raid in time. I shouldn’t have signed up really. Anyway, what I hear is that the team wasn’t able to make much progress in there, which is a shame. If I were a raid leader (which I most certanily am not) I  think I’d probably try to “hand pick” a team, concentrating on the well geared players that I knew handled new enounters well and displayed amazing situational awareness. I know that there is a big enough pool of Munquis that meet this criteria. From a selfish point of view I’d like this because as a “B team”er I know that taking on an encounter with players that have already bested the content makes things a lot easier for me.

Anyway, this news has prompted me to take a closer look at Flowersz own gearing and using Drugs own post here’s what I have and where I think I’ll be able to get upgrades. AKA my “shopping list”… Please don’t take this as a loot ranking list, this is just concentrating on loot in the Frozen Halls and occasionally stuff available from [Emblem of Triumph] or on the Auction house.

  • Neck: FoS Heroic
  • Back: Pos N, (or Emblems of Frost)
  • Chest: T9 from Triumph or Auction House
  • Legs: Pos Heroic, or T9 from Triumph
  • Feet: Pos H, FoS N
  • Rings: HoR H, or Triumph
  • Main Hand: PoS H, HoR N
  • Offhand: Pos N (or Hor H)
  • Trinket: HoR H
  • Head: none
  • Shoulders: none
  • Wrist: None
  • Hands: None
  • Waist: None

So as far as I can tell I should buy the remaining 2 pieces of T9 which should be done by the end of the week, and then run any of the Frozen halls dungeons in normal or heroic. Probably prefering PoS Heroic for the Mace upgrade  which would be a huge upgrade and give an extra a tiny chance at the Battered Hilt and a chance at the boots upgrade. And then going back to FoS Heroic for one fo the two neck pieces.

In excruciating detail..

Over christmass I went to see Avatar with my girlfriend. This is the first film I’ve ever seen in 3D.

Let me say this, there 3D does not make up for a poor plot. Everywhere people seem to be going “3D is the next big step since colour”. I’m afraid I’m not convinced. I guess this is partly because I had to keep closing one eye or lifting the glasses off my face to quell the eyestrain I was having. I’d be more inclined to liken 3D to the jump from stereo to 5.1 (and whatever it is in cinemas now), nice, but just not essential.

Don’t get me wrong, the 3D in Avatar is some of the best I’ve seen, carefully limited so you don’t have to focus on stuff far in front of the screen and otherwise well implemented. Far better than the unfortunate adverts that came before it which seemed to think that you should cross your eyes every 10 seconds.

But, the plot for avatar is a tad weak and definitely confused. Is it an action movie or a romance?

As a romance it fell down badly when romatic lead promised his undying love and “mated for life” while still sitting in a tin can totally owned by the big bad corporation and being scheduled to be sent home at the end of his duty. I’m sorry, but really I don’t think a lover I could identify with would put someone in a situation like that where they couldn’t even promise to be around in 12 months time let alone for the rest of their life!

Barry Norman once said in a critical review that he felt that the characters were doing things because it’s required by the plot and since then I’ve used that as something of a yard-stick. If they’re not doing it because that’s exactly what they would do then my enjoyment starts to fall apart. (Action movies are exempt from this rule)

And as an action movie you had to wonder what was the point of all that romatic fluff?

P.S. Sue had a splitting headache for the rest of that day and the next night. So I don’t think I’ll be watching much more in 3D, and I don’t think I’ll miss it.

I was looking to pug [Razorscale must die] this weekend and noticed in the looking for raid screen that I was apparently not well enough geared for ICC [edit, remedy I missed this important piece of info out!]! Blimey 2 pieces of T8 and 2 pieces of T9 are not enough! So I went mad and hit the Auction house to try to upgrade some of the lower level gear. Basically the only non-badge gear that Flowersz was wearing that could be replaced with Bind-on-Equip gear was her bracers at level 213. Everything else either didn’t have stuff you could buy (with triumph emblems or gold) or I’ve personally flagged as being replaceable with drops from the Pit Of Saron.

So that only left [Black Chitin Bracers] going for around 2k gold or [Bejeweled Wizard's Bracers]which were going for around 4k gold. You would think this was an easy choice. Unfortunately my mind went on one of it’s strange journies and I opted for the cloth bracers. The raw mats came to around 2.5k and I found someone to make them (hi Warlockygirl). Now 500 extra gold for such a minor stat change is a bit much, viagra 60mg but my brain still hadn’t returned by the time it came to do the trade and I tipped a further 500g! Ouch!

So this is a warning to any guildies who are thinking of copying me. DON’T! The chitin bracers are quite fab enough as it is!

Anyway, drugstore that seemed to be enough, LookingForRaid now thinks Flowersz is well enough geared for ICC. Strangely it still thinks that even if she’s dressed in her brewfest gear.

I’ll soon have enough frost badges to replace the WispCloak that I’ve had since I first hit level 80, and not long after I’ll have enough emblems of triumph to go full T9 (though I’m going to miss the 1 second quicker riptides from 2pc T8).

PS.  I love wearing “around town” clothes when joining a PuG, it makes them worry 🙂

PPS. Rasorscale went down fast enough for the achievement and we only had two healers and no deaths.

let them die

Filed under: World of Warcraft — Andrew.Rowbottom @ 5:08 pm

I tried the “let them die” on a pug recently. Well not intentionally. but on the first simple little trash pull the ret pally pulls aggro and his health starts to fall, sale and I’m off there thinking about how much snow I’ve got to clear before I can get the van back on the road while tapping out Lesser Healing Wave on the tank, medical and suddenly there he is dead! Wow! And I wasn’t even trying!

Nothing was said, but you know what? He didn’t pull aggro again!

nuff said!

Not dead, not even sleeping

It’s been quite a while since I last posted, cure soz. So what has happened in the World of Rummy??

I’ve reread some of this rambling and it comes fair and sqaure under the category of “Content Free”.

Before crimbo we went and bought a new motorbike, just in time for all the snow to fall, so much snow fell that very same after that we even had to abandon the van for a little while on the way home! So the poor bike has been sat in the garage for almost a month now 🙁 I bet the battery has run flat!

I think I’m holding up fairly well on the “don’t waste so much of your time in WoW” resolution of a few weeks ago. Now that I can do a dungeon within a couple of minutes of logging in (being a healer has its perks) I no longer wait for a callout in Guild Chat. It does also mean I’m not really contributing much to GC either.

Like everyone else and their pet kitten I’m joining LFG random quite a lot more and unlike the kitty I may have found my vocation in life! The Pug Wiper! Yup, almost every group I’ve been in has wiped somewhere down the line. Is it my short attention span?

Because we’re all doing instances all of the time guild chat seems to have gone pretty quiet in general, one of the inintended consequences of the new LFG.

What else?

Oh yes,  badges and loot. I’m slowly earning badges (I’m not doing that many pugs) and buying stuff, though the triumph emblems are coming in so fast it’s actually a little difficult to find stuff to buy, and something about buying minor upgrades doesn’t go well with my inherent stinginess. Especially since drug has kindly listed all of the loverly stuff that drops in Forge of Souls – I don’t want to spend any badges on stuff I know is just lying there waiting for me to find it. (Not that I’ve had any luck at all on that front).

What what else?

Snow is getting in the way of everything, since it means I’m often not home till much later than usual, what with trains, and digging the Van in and out. Poo

Anything more?

Oh yes, one puggie kindly reminded me that there was a spell called heroism after we had downed the first boss in Forge of Souls. Arrogant sod, I know that we’ll be at the second boss before it’s ready again. Anyway, he was sort of right, we wiped twice on that boss (I is in your pug wiping your group?) so it would have been ready. This is the only comment I’ve ever had, which considering my record shows how pretty damn tolerant everyone is. I might be on hundreds of Ignore lists though!

owt else?

Scaring newbies! I rolled a paladin, in a moment of boredom and got a group invite from another level 2 priest (leysi – darkspear) in the starting area. We mooched around for a bit and I asked if there were totally new, not quite, they had a level 40-something. So I relogged, gave them 4 bags and a few hundred virtual gold. They was suitably shocked. Random acts of kindness FTW!

finished yet?

probably, oh, no, not yet– i’ve seen no micro hitches in ages – I blame the “Aloft” addon.

And finally…

If they’ll have me I’ll be raiding Icecrown on monday and shouting “Run Away” at every available opportunity! I’m still smiling over that one! It’s why you join a guild!
